Did you know that the only investment book on my desk is Graham, Dodd & Cottles’ Security Analysis? This book has been there since I began working in 1963 and is as treasured now as it was then. The guts of investing haven’t changed much through the decades either. Compound interest, value and patience are still the key. In fact many of our highest quality investments have been successful for over 80 years. In this month’s issue, I talk about the importance of dividend yields versus stock buybacks. Also this month you will notice that the Economic Analysis and Mutual Funds Monster Master List have been revised. My goal is to provide you with content that updates more frequently and is easier to read. Make it a good month!

1967’s Monterey International Pop Festival was a catalyst for a financial tidal wave in the pop music industry that lasted an entire decade. My 2008-based Big Idea hitched to the luxury goods supercycle is much the same, if not a whole lot more. Read this month’s issue to find out more about the impact this will have on babyboomer retirements. Also this month, I have a special guide on high-yield investing, along with quite a few new Monster Master List stocks and an update on our agricultural commodities portfolio. Make it a good month.

Timing is everything … but good timing is not just a matter of luck. It’s the product of good fortune, and one makes one’s own good
fortune by creating the right environment to allow good things to happen. If you look at this month’s Economic Analysis, you will see more evidence
about your good fortune—namely our awesome success in picking highly profitable mutual funds and stocks! This month, I have a detailed look at
my top 10 stocks to buy today. Finally, we had so many excellent questions for this year’s annual Q&A that I had to add a bonus section. Check
out this month’s issue for all the details. Make it a good month.

This month I talk about jazz great Thelonious Monk, his sense of rhythm and mastery of space. Successful investing and Monk’s music have one thing in common—space. For you, the investor, space is about what you do not want to do. In this issue, I offer you a program to help you develop your own rhythm and balance along with an overview of some of our investments and a special section on 10 Reasons to Love the Outcome of the November 7 Elections. I also talk about the bull market in precious metals and oil and why I believe there is still room to grow. Make it a good month.

In 1959, I started studying the stock market. Since then there has not been a single stock market downer in the year leading up to a presidential election. In fact, stocks usually make big gains-more so than in any other year of the election cycle. In this issue, I cover the impact of the presidential election cycle on the stock market, especially the year preceding the election. But the bulk of the issue is spent discussing my investment strategy. You need to read what I have to say about Japan versus South Korea. I also discuss fixed income and what you can expect in 2006 with regard to my Big Idea — the impending retirement of 76 million Americans. I have some new funds and some old for you to consider as well as some new stock offerings. Make sure to read this month’s issue; it will help you prepare for 2006.

In this month’s issue I focus on the effects of Hurricane Katrina and what it means for your investments and for the U.S. economy. No matter the outlook, your investment strategy need not be altered, as I have been guiding you in the direction of a fully counterbalanced portfolio capable of riding out even catastrophic events like Katrina. Remember a conservative approach to investing wins. I devote the bulk of this issue to review our portfolios and what kind of return you need to plan for. And as promised I’ve included my end-of-summer “Mostly Stocks” section, which provides intelligence on many of our Monster Master List names. You must act now to take care of your portfolio as I have been stressing for the past few months.

The experts say…”stratospheric oil prices are here to stay and the housing bubble will not burst.” I disagree, and I give you the reasons why for both of these topics. I also discuss hedge funds, the US$ and a slowing world economy, but there still is a lot to be enthusiastic about. This month’s issue is loaded with great opportunities for you in funds (new and old friends), gold and stocks that should capture your attention. All of these stocks and funds connect to my Big Ideas and the impact of China’s growth on the world economy. I also have 2 stocks that I want you to sell and a merger that I want you to buy. I have also added 16 new charts to my Economic Analysis to help you understand what is going on in the world. The August issue is filled with great opportunities for you. This will be the issue that helps you overcome the inertia and take action.
